Google has finally launched the Google 3D Maps implemented using MapsGL,a feature which allows you to view 3D buildings & structures which are rendered to replicate the exact features of the real structure standing on earth using the satellite feeds & their extensive mapping of Earth.Utilizing the maximum capabilities of WebGL,the Google 3D can be viewed in Firefox beta,Chrome,Apple Safari(If enabled) & also Opera 12 Alpha is anticipated to be capable of rendering the images beautifully
Some of the new features includes the superfast transitions between the street view(3D) & the Bird Eye View(2D) along with a new feature to rotate the map in 360 degrees there by giving you full control over the navigational aspects. The best place to check this out would be the Piazze del Collosseo, Roma, Italia, the same Colosseum which featured in the movie Gladiator. As you can see from the image you can now set your map in any direction rather than only in North & also you can use relative positioning too.The 360 degree at an inclined 45 degree angle is just magnificent.
