Top Ten Of The World's Greatest Empires

The Business Insider had published an article regarding ten of the worlds greatest Empire & Its my pleasure to announce them in the descending order:

10) The Rashidun Caliphate ( Muhammad's Legacy):

Features:

• The empire covered land in excess of 3 Million square miles which is almost 6% of Earths land-mass.
• Empire began after the death of Muhammad in 632 A.D when his followers scrambled to form Empires

9)The Portuguese Empire:

Features:

• Classified as the first Global Empire in history 
• Began with the capture of Ceuta in 1415 and went on till 1999.
• The last country to be released was Macau.

8)The Abbasid Caliphate (Who were eventually overthrown by the Turks):

Features:

• Covered an area of almost 4.29 Million square Miles of land-More than 7% of Earth's Land mass.
• Baghdad was proclaimed as its Capital.
• Its estimated to have been in power from 750 A.D to 1258 only to be defeated by the Turks.

7)The Umayyad Caliphate 

Features:

• Covered almost 5.02 Million square miles equivalent to 8% of Earths land mass.
• Empire spanned over 62 Million people between 720 & 750 AD which is 30% of world population.
• Damascus was their Capital.

6)Yuan Dynasty which was frequented by Marco Polo:

 Features:

• Covered Over 5.41 Million Square Miles greater than 9 % of the Land mass.
• Empire had around 60 million People in 1291 which is almost 17% of world's population.
• Founded by the Grandson of Genghis Khan.
• Italian merchant Maro Polo was a frequent visitor to the Empire.

5)Qing Dynasty(China's Last Official Dyanasty):

Features:

• Covered almost 5.68 Million Square Miles almost 10 % of Earths land mass.
• Empire held a population if almost 432 Million people 1n 1851 which is approximately 33% of the global population.
• Ruled from 17th century to 20th century.
• Republic of China took over from this Dynasty.

4)The Spanish Empire(Which was one of the earliest Global Empires)

Features:

• This Empire covered over 7.62 Million square Miles equivalent to 13% of Earths Land mass.
• Empire had 68.2 Million people between 1740-1790 almost 12% of Worlds population.
• Second most spoken language in the world.

3)The Great Russian Empire:

Features:

• The Russian Empire covered 9.15 Million Square Miles equivalent to 15% of Earths land mass.
• The Empire had 176.14 Million people in 1913 equal to 9% of the Global population.
• The Empire went down during the Russian revolution in 1917.

2)The Great Mongol Empire(The largest Contiguous Empire Ever):

Features:

• The Mongol covered 9.15 Million Square Miles almost 16% of the Earths land mass.
• Empire had 110 Million civilians between 1270 and 1309 which is almost 26% of the worlds population.
• Genghis Khan was its greatest ruler.
• In 1331 with the advent of Black Death,the empire slowly brought the Empire to its knees.

1)The British Empire was the Largest Empire the World has Ever Witnessed:

Features:

• This giant Empire covered over 13.01 Square miles which is more than 22% of the Earths land mass.
• Empire had a population of 458 Million people in 1938 more than 20% of the world Population.
• Japanse invasion into its Colonies & India's Independence brought this great Empire to its decline.
