Gone are the days when the carriers will slap you with huge bills for crossing over your download limit or making excessive calls especially when you are roaming.Gone are the days when the carriers sit & wait for us to incur huge overuse charges and then squeeze us for every single penny.before the U.S administration went ahead and took matters into their own hands,the reluctant carriers agreed to comply by the Consumer Notification & voluntary Industrial guidelines.This means that there will be no more instances which includes huge overage issues along with situations which would force you to mortgage your intangible assets.No more freaking out for realizing that you have exceeded your download limit by a colossal margin & feel like throwing the phone at the carrier Rep.
The overage notification warnings will be implemented at an expedited rate.So the next time you download too many movies or are about to cross your download limit,you will be intimated by alert message.Same is the case when you enter roaming also,if you start building too much roaming charges you will receive warnings.Also this time around the users will be given a clear idea of what their bill might be if they proceed at the current rate whether roaming or local.These regulations come from the Federal Communications Commissions(FCC) and it was quoted:
“Chairman Genachowski [of the FCC] deserves credit for raising the industry’s awareness of the value of more usage alerts. He encouraged the industry to address usage alerts in a manner that recognizes that innovations in the wireless world develop quickly. The result is an industry code that will serve consumers better than rules that would soon be outdated, and that is responsive to President Obama’s request that federal agencies avoid imposing unnecessary regulation on businesses when a nonregulatory solution is available. We hope that in the future this industry effort serves as a model for the communications space.”The guidelines were issued at the conference which was headed by the consortium of heads in the wireless industry CTIA.As per the Survey conducted by LA times it was deduced that the 60 % of the Customers were willing to follow government initiated schemes and rules as a way to avoid shock.Feeling the heat,the CTIA refused to give in to the FCC guidelines and after repeated talks they finally relented.The CTIA made a statement:
“Regulations, no matter how well-intentioned, simply cannot be as flexible and responsive to consumer needs as a self-regulatory code.”Alerts will be in enabled & in place in all four aspects: voice, data, text, and international charges, within 18 months on of the carriers that’ve agreed to take part.
