Google announced last week that its planning to implement a new tag called "standout" tag which would function as a new metadata tag(something like a new link rel attribute in Html5).Adding a new twist to the automated news feed algorithm-Organizations & Media companies can add the new meta tag to label & mark their best articles & stories.
Google News(The U.S version) will use this new tag inorder to document/label the stories which come as featured on the Home page and in search queries.
However Google gave a premonition regarding the mis-use of the "standout" tag by claiming that if any News/Organization uses the tag more than seven times then it won't be tagged & documented by Google's algorithm.Google News(The U.S version) will use this new tag inorder to document/label the stories which come as featured on the Home page and in search queries.
“We can showcase that standout piece of journalism in Google News by putting a ‘featured’ label in front of it,” said Google News product specialist David Smydra, who announced the new option at the Online News Association conference in Boston. “And that featured label will help that article persist while other news organizations are following and developing their coverage on that story.”Syntax rules for the "standout" tag are:
- The standout meta tag should appear in the <head> section of your template/code.
- It looks like <link rel=”standout” href=“http://www.your-website.com/article.html” />
